Office Network Optimization

The office used to run on three ISPs, each on its own default ISP modem with a different Wi-Fi name. Ping was often high, and since every spot was a separate network, you couldn’t print after moving to another room. I rebuilt it around a MikroTik RB5009UG+S+ with three ISPs (up to 300/500/100 Mbps) and four Ruijie EW3000GX-PRO Wi-Fi 6 access points on one SSID. Office PCs get 50 Mbps each via ISP A, other devices 30 Mbps each via ISP B, apps are routed to a specific ISP, YouTube has its own line, the printer works from anywhere, and failover kicks in when a line drops.

Features

  • MikroTik RB5009UG+S+
  • Wi-Fi 6
  • Single SSID
  • Policy routing
  • Per-device limits
  • Failover
  • Shared printer

What it does

  • Before: every spot ran on its own default ISP modem with its own SSID, ping was often high, and the printer only worked from the network it was plugged into
  • A MikroTik RB5009UG+S+ in the middle with three ISPs: up to 300, 500 and 100 Mbps (best-effort plans, not dedicated)
  • One SSID across the office on four Ruijie EW3000GX-PRO Wi-Fi 6 access points, so you stay connected as you walk around
  • Per-device limits: office PCs 50 Mbps up/down, other devices and phones 30 Mbps up/down, so nobody hogs a line
  • Routing per device and app (mangle): office PCs and internal systems via ISP A; other devices plus Spotify, TikTok, WhatsApp and Instagram via ISP B; YouTube via ISP C with no cap
  • One network for the whole office, so the printer can be reached from every room and every access point
  • Failover: when a line drops its traffic moves to another one, e.g. YouTube goes to ISP B while ISP C is down

Screens

  • Before: three ISPs, each with its own default modem/router and SSID, high ping, and no printing once you move rooms

  • Failover: ISP C goes down and YouTube moves over to ISP B

  • Per-device limits: office PC 50/50 Mbps (ISP A), other devices 30/30 Mbps (ISP B), YouTube unlimited (ISP C)
